Farm Bureau Committees:
Advocacy Supports policy discussion and policy advocating events, from "Day at the Statehouse" events in Topeka and "Eggs & Issues" breakfasts to town hall meetings and Legislative Coffees.
Education Committed to ensuring that youth and adults throughout Franklin County are educated on the value and source of their food, fuel and fiber. This committee is instrumental in working with the K-State Research and Extension Office, and other local entities, to produce the annual Day on the Farm event for over 300 third graders! The Education Committee also sponsors an annual Safety Poster contest for local elementary school students and supports FFA Chapters and 4-H Clubs throughout Franklin County.
Service Takes intentional steps to serve our members and community at-large in various ways throughout the year including an annual Food Drive supporting the CONNECT Mobile Food Pantry, a large protein donation to Hope House through purchase of animals in the 4-H Premium Sale, serving free lunches in the summer at the Ottawa Recreation Commission. In 2023, we are working toward a large community-wide meal-packing event to supply our food-insecure neighbors with 10,000-12,000 protein-enriched meals.
Membership Responsible for securing Member Benefits for our members, distributing window decals and signs to member farms and businesses, and bringing member issues before the board. Coordinates annual events to bring members together. Also charged with implementing member awards: Century & Sesquicentennial Farms, Farm Family of the Year, Friend of Agriculture, etc.
When you enjoy Membership Benefits all around Franklin County, remember to thank two people: The business who provides the benefit and our committee who works with all of these businesses and shows why they should reward Farm Bureau members for making agriculture a priority!
Women's Committee Assists with most of Farm Bureau's annual events, including serving food at Day on the Farm, assisting with Ag in the Classroom Activities, providing teacher support for educators across Franklin County, and implementing our popular Bread in a Bag program in every 3rd Grade Classroom in Franklin County.
Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) The YF&R is for Farm Bureau members aged 18-35 who are young farmers, college students, and/or professionals interested in agriculture. The Franklin County YF&R assists with a variety of activities, including the pedal pull at the Franklin County Fair, the Farm Bureau Scholarship Committee, and local "Day on the Farm" events.
In January, Franklin County sends a delegation of young people to the state YF&R Conference, held in Manhattan. We have taken approximately 8-14 young people each year from the past several years. Mark and Lacey Wray have served as District 2 state YF & R representatives. Mark's parents, John and Brenda Wray, also were state YF&R reps!
