AG Ambassadors

Your 2024-2025 Ag Ambassadors are Amelia Behrends, Brynn Perry, and Calla Higbie.

In 2019 the Board of Directors adopted an Ag Ambassador program. As high school students who want to develop themselves and strengthen their knowledge of all areas in agriculture and policy, the Ag Ambassador program is an exceptional opportunity that connects seniors in high school with Farm Bureau to grow their knowledge of agriculture, assist their county board with events, and create a line of communication with future employers and experts in the industry. Ag Ambassadors participate in Farm Bureau events within our county, as well as attending events in Manhattan and Topeka with Kansas Farm Bureau. Upon completion of their program year, Ambassadors receive a $1000 scholarship to their school of choice.

Day on the Farm is held annually at Sylvester Ranch in the fall. This is a cooperative program with the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce and Franklin County Farm Bureau. The 2024 Day on the Farm event was a huge success with nearly 400 students, teachers and volunteers involved.

Bread in a Bag is a program highlighting wheat provided to third graders in their classrooms. Each student takes home a loaf of homemade whole wheat bread and the recipe. In 2024, Farm Bureau volunteers presented the program to over 300 third grade students in every elementary school in Franklin County.

he Kansas Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher of the Year Award Program is designed to recognize those Young Farmers & Ranchers who have excelled in their farming/ranching operations and honed their leadership abilities to superiority. The contestant(s) will be evaluated on a combination of farm operation growth and financial progress, Farm Bureau leadership, as well as leadership outside of Farm Bureau. More specifically, the judges will be looking for excellence in management, scope of the enterprise and self-initiatives that have been displayed throughout the operation.

Application Deadline: December 15, 2015

Interview Date for Finalists: January 30, 2016 (Manhattan, KS)

Applicants for the YF&R of the Year Award must meet the following criteria:

Must be a voting Farm Bureau member of a county Farm Bureau in Kansas between the ages of 18 and 35.
May be an individual or a married couple. To qualify, the individual or spouse will not have reached their 36th birthday by January 31st, 2017.
Must be a member in good standing with their county Farm Bureau.
Must be actively engaged in farming and/or ranching with the majority of his/her income from production agriculture.
Winner will advance to the 2017 AFBF Achievement Award competition.
Applicant may only compete in one national YF&R competition per year.

Prizes:

First Place - $500 + expense paid trip to compete in the national contest at the 2017 AFBF Annual Convention
Second Place - $300
Third Place - $200
Fourth Place - $100

I think this is a good way of recognizing the efforts of our young farmers and ranchers. What they do is not an easy or menial task. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance on their part to keep the farms and ranches going. Some people take these individual's efforts for granted for they do not know the hardship that entails the management of a farm or ranch. When I was young, I never saw their importance. But as I grew older and become more knowledgeable about our world, I have come to realize that the farmers and ranchers are the very legs that we stand on. Without them, where would we get the food that we serve on our table?
